I searched for this after listening to a UA-camr I found unbearable, no only he talks too fasts , but he talks without making any pause

Pause and slow down and your turn is over. If they don't want to hear what you say. Don't say it!

I talk fast but it frustrates me when people call me out on it as if I am intentionally doing it. What I hear and say in my head is normal speech so I dont know how I would go about speaking slow. Speaking slow feels like I am talking in baby talk or acting mentally challenged. I know it has a lot to do with my anxiety. I grew up in a family where there where a lot of verbal arguments or if I was in trouble and often I would be confronted by someone and I would carefully have to choose my words or get a beating. Then as an introvert contending with everyone speaking over me. I get this anxious burst of speech as if wanting to get over with. Sometimes i think people just arent attentive listeners. So if you do understand me and I am talking slow it means I am talking to you like an idiot with slow comprehension.

But listening to a fast talkers causes anxiety, so basically you are implying that your feelings are more important . Fast talkers are hard to understand, anxiety inducing and terrible for people who speak English as a second language….so it seems like y’all are the ones in the wrong and need to work on it or get used to be avoided

Sometimes when i try to begin a conversation i kinda like ( glitch) trying to pronouce the thing i was thinking about and instead i find my self spelling random letters soo fast for like 3 seconds then i recover and tell what i was thinking about

Many languages, other than English, are spoken very fast. When people with a fast native language speak English as a second language they tend to speak English too fast and their words run together. As well, many ESL students learn English from a teacher whose 2nd language is English and will speak and teach their English with their first language accent. To learn English well, find a teacher whose first language is English and 2nd language is that of the students. A Spanish first speaker should not be teaching English to Spanish speaking students, the English taught will have a Spanish accent. Likewise, an English first speaker should not be teaching Spanish to English first speakers. They too, will pick up an English accent in learning their Spanish. The exceptions prove the rule and please slow down (you know who you are).

It's also something to note that people with ADHD, such as myself, tend to talk really fast as well. This is because our brains move much faster and we have like 60 thoughts going through our heads at once, so if we don't get everything out there into the world as fast as possible we might forget it all mid-sentence.

2 simple rules: No uptalk and no vocal fry. That will improve things quite a bit. And bonus: stop saying "like" and "literally" every fourth word.

speaking slowly is better than fast, that's what is being said. If you have habit of speaking fast slow down. Breathe deep and look at the audience in eyes.

I notice a lot of younger & Hispanic people speak English very fast. It’s been so irritating I just had to research it. Your comment on sounding more N.American was interesting., I didn’t realize that was something we did but if that’s how others perceive it then I will consider that as a reason. I just started noticing it in the last decade. Has this always been an issue or do you think it’s been recent increase as well? Thank you for your video!

I'm from NYC...we speak fast there. Once I left NY, spent time around others and lived in Texas, my cadence slowed down a bit. Now, when I listen to people in business video, they drive me nuts with all the speed-talking.

Vocal smile is absolutely important, especially on calls as you say. I use it for emphasis and visualize the other person in front of me, which enriches the tone and expression in my voice. You wouldn't speak to someone with a monotone voice in person.

I talk fast most of the time owing to anxiety but when I'm calm, I speak normally. Another thing I have realized is that if remind myself to not speak fast, I speak normally as well. But as you mentioned, I should breath and pause while speaking. Thanks

Tips? What tips?? Bonnie Gross just said 't' in middle of words can sound like 'd' - i.e., the video is descriptive, not prescriptive. The video also oversimplifies. The letter 't' (or letters 'tt') in words like button, or cotton, or matter, do NOT just sound like the letter 'd.' I know this because I have a speech problem in which I pronounce those 'tt' letters exactly as 'dd' letters, and it is very, very noticeable. And if I try to pronounce these words properly, I almost always over-emphasize the 't' sound, and the results are even worse. Occasionally, people have been unsure of what I am saying when I say things like buddon or coddon. In almost all cases, however, people do their best to politely ignore it, or, as with the women I've dated, it is affectionately acknowledged as a cute idiosyncrasy. (Actually, I acknowledge it first if it has become really obvious on a date. Then the affectionate dismissal of it as unimportant or even cute - calling it cute is a helluva stretch - follows. But I am happy to say this does provide me with a rough idea of how much a woman likes me & finds me attractive! :) Anyway, it is a remnant of the profoundly disordered speech I had as a child. From what I've been told, my speech development began normally, and I received a ton of attention & questions from my two teenage sisters and their friends. Then I suddenly stopped talking. Completely. For more than two years. When I resumed talking, nobody could understand me beyond my parents and my little sister, who was actually imitating me as she learned to talk! She and I went to speech therapy. Her speech was 'fixed' very quickly and put on the proper path. My therapy, however, was a grueling process, and what little I remember of it focused on S sounds and T sounds. I thought maybe a UA-cam video could help with this, and provide the last lesson in my speech therapy. But it is not a big deal. As it is, I won a state debate tournament in high school, proved to be an excellent fundraiser, conducted numerous research interviews, and have taught with success.
